The need to preserve the environment and environmental
quality constitutes a guideline for the design and construction
of Highway No. 6.
Derech Eretz has established new and advanced criteria for
dealing with the issue of environmental quality and landscaping
on Highway No. 6
An unprecedented investment of about $70 million was allocated to environmental quality at the design stage of the highway in various areas, among them:
1. Rehabilitation and development of the scenery along the highway route.
2. Prevention of possible damage to natural resources, flora
and fauna.
3. Acoustic treatment to prevent noise hazards.
4. Special crossings for agricultural machinery and animals.
5. Treatment and preservation of archaeological sites.
The open areas through which Highway No. 6 passes on the eastern side of the country give drivers an opportunity to view new vistas they have never seen before.
The rehabilitation and landscape development accompanying the highway throughout its length contribute to maximum integration of the road shoulders with the varying scenic patterns along the route, and enhance the driving experience.
