A toll road serves as an alternative for existing highways. Its aim is to improve access from place to place. Such a road is more convenient, more flowing, faster, with higher safety standards. The toll road offers services to the driver in exchange for a fee just like any other provider of service, and is characterized by a high standard of service and maintenance. Highway No. 6 is divided into 9 toll sections, with an average length of 9-10 km. The road is equipped with a sophisticated electronic tolling system. The charge is effected automatically, with no need to stop upon entering the highway, at the transition between the various sections of the highway or when leaving it, in order to permit open and continuous flow of traffic.
The Driver has a Choice of Two Different Charging Methods:
For owners of a smart electronic transponder (Pass-Kal):
Holders of electronic transponders are defined as “Regular Users”. Against a deposit, to be refunded upon its return, the driver receives an electronic transponder which he installs on the windshield of the vehicle. The transponder communicates with the electronic system, located on every toll gate along the highway. The transponder, acting as a kind of identity tag for the car,
is able to characterize the type of vehicle and the distance it has passed. The charge
is collected by means of a standing bank order, and a copy of the invoice
is sent directly to the car owner’s home, as is customary with other service providers.
Charging by Means of Photographing the Vehicle:
This method is intended for occasional drivers who do not carry an electronic transponder . The car’s license plate is photographed upon entry into and exit from the highway, with no need to stop. The car owner’s particulars
is downloaded into the Highway No. 6 billing system directly from the Licensing Department of the Ministry of Transport, in accordance with the Toll Road Law passed by the Knesset. An invoice for payment
is sent straight to the driver’s home or charged automatically to his bank account, at his choice.
