The Yitzhak Rabin Highway (Highway No. 6), also known as the “Cross Israel Highway”, is the largest infrastructure project ever performed in the State of Israel. The national highway’s route stretches along 300 km, from the Beer Sheva area in the south to the region of Rosh Pina and Nahariya in the north.
Derech Eretz was selected as the project concessionaire, to design, execute and operate the central section of the highway, from the Sorek Interchange in the south, up to the Eyron Interchange in the north, to be operated as a toll road. Derech Eretz is investing about $1.3 billion of private financing in the development of Highway No. 6.
The central section of Highway No. 6 covers about 86 km, and includes 10 interchanges, 94 bridges, 2 tunnels, each 455 m long, 100 km of agricultural service roads and 44 km of lateral roads integrated into the project.
Highway No. 6, serves as a major traffic artery for those traveling to the north or the south. The highway offers an alternative traffic route to the east of the two existing longitudinal traffic routes - Highway No. 4 (the Gehah Road) and Highway No. 2 (the Coastal Road).
In its central section, between the Kessem and Ben-Shemen Interchanges, Highway No. 6 serves as a bypass around the Tel-Aviv metropolitan area, directing traffic to the east and helping to reduce traffic loads in the cities at the center of the country.
For the inhabitants of the south and north of the country, Highway No. 6 provides faster access to the central region. Shortened travel time opens up many business opportunities, as well as developing enterprises in the peripheral regions that will become accessible and attractive due to the use of Highway No. 6.
